Torbay Short Mat BowlingTournament This year the overall numbers were down, although Herefordshire was well represented by teams from Ross on Wye Larruperz Centre and Lea With the shortage of players it meant that all 16 mats were not in use at any one time making it more enjoyable because the noise levels of instructions from players became more subdued. Regarding the results, Lea had a team in the Triples, Tony Harris Janet Harris and Gwynneth Jones, who were through to the semi finals of the main competition.
In the fours, Lea was represented by, Colin and Iris Smith, with Jack and June Smith who got through to the main competition.
The Triples competition was won by Tony and Hazel Vitali, together with Fay Middlecote, of the Larrupez Club Ross on Wye.
Tony and Hazel also won the pairs where Colin Smith and Gwynneth Jones of the Lea SMBC reached the quarter finals.
Alf Wye and Margaret Davies of Larruperz SMBC were runners up in the Plate Competitions for the Pairs losing by just one shot.
A team from Ross on Wye were runner up in the main fours competition losing out by two points, they were Liz and Mike Nicholson with Brenda Garrett and Colin Barnes. Overall a good showing from the county of Hereford Short Mat Bowling Clubs

MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT TROPHY TOURNAMENT
BROMYARD LEISURE CENTRE - 10 NOVEMBER 2007
Yet again we have maintained our record of exceeding the amount raised the previous year - something that we have done every year since Herefordshire took over the running of this Tournament in 1999; £1820.86, compared with £1634.07 last year.
Of this, £840 (£640 last year) came from entry fees, £318 from donations (£321.60), £363.51 from the raffles (£434.89) and £264.35 (£213.05) from the sale of refreshments The Macmillan table had £160-worth of sales (£161.80). The “penalty” for hitting the block contributed £35 (£27). Perhaps the only “disappointment” was the reward for the outstanding number of raffle prizes donated, there must have been getting on for 40, which was tremendously generous and deserved a better outcome. There was also an unending supply of delicious cakes throughout the day; appreciation is due to all those individuals and clubs who contributed so generously, Thanks are also due to all those who gave their time to help transport the equipment, set up the Hall, serve the refreshments, sell raffle tickets and help with the organisation of another highly successful and enjoyable tournament. Congratulations and thanks to everyone
We had a record number of 42 teams taking part, of which we were delighted to see 19 from Gloucestershire, and we introduced a different playing format together with a computer-based information system. It was a full house with lots of new things to get used to - and potentially lots of things to go wrong! - but everyone was very cooperative and early feedback has been very positive. Any suggestions that would improve the arrangements next year would nevertheless be very welcome.
At the end of 4 games we had clear winners in both groups, with Wotton Hall 1 winning the Red Group and Wotton Hall 2 winning the Blue group. These two teams then had a 3-end play-off, which Wotton Hall 1 won by 2 ends to 1. Well done Wotton Hall!
I am enclosing copies of the Master Score sheets for your records
Yours sincerely,
Andrew Mollett Competition Organiser
